Government increases funding for three schemes and falls for Capacitybuilders - March 5 2010

Angela Smith, Minister for the Third Sector, announced and increase in funding for three more schemes, but cuts to Capacitybuilders

The Cabinet Office plans to increase funding for the youth volunteering charity v from £38.1m in 2009/10 to £39m in 2010/11, according to figures announced in Parliament. In response to a question from Francis Maude, the shadow cabinet office minister, third sector minister Angela Smith said her department had allocated £39m to the organisation for the financial year 2010/11.

She announced that funding for Government's Access to Volunteering project, which gives grants to help volunteering groups involve disabled volunteers, would also be increased from £650,000 to £1.35m in the same period.

The Generations Together scheme, which funds projects that strengthen relationships between young people and old people, will also rise from £1m to £1.5m, and the Volunteer Management programme which supports professional development for volunteer managers, will increase from £900,000 to £2.2m.

But the figures also showed that funding for infrastructure body Capacitybuilders would fall from £38.5m to £30m.

Smith also commented Cabinet Office had not yet made any allocations to any of the programmes beyond March 2011.
